Known to its many loyal guests as “a lesbian paradise,” The Highlands Inn has been offering welcoming, tastefully decorated accommodations and scrumptious breakfasts to guests since 1983. Located on 100 private wooded acres in Bethlehem, NH, the Inn is a complex of three buildings - the Main Inn with 13 guest rooms, the Farmhouse (5 guest rooms), and a rustic Cottage.
This unusually large property provides an atmosphere of peaceful and refreshing privacy, both outdoors and throughout its common areas - the spacious fireplaced living room and library, wicker-filled porch, and huge sunny breakfast room. The guest rooms and common areas are distinctively furnished with antiques, fine linens, original artwork, and fresh flowers, creating the ambiance of a Victorian country home. Other amenities include the 54-foot heated pool, two large spas (indoors and outdoors), 15 miles of trails right on the property, and an extensive lesbian/gay video collection.
Additionally, the Highlands sponsors a unique, year-round series of women's music concerts, featuring musicians who are making names for themselves in the Northeast as well as some nationally known performers. The Inn's relaxed, intimate setting is the perfect venue for these artists. Concerts are held at the Inn and are free to guests. The program began with a couple of concerts in 1999, and has grown into a year-round series with over 25 musicians performing during the year.
No other b&b inn or resort in the country organizes and promotes a concert series like the Highlands' program. Most of the participating musicians perform nationally, at popular music festivals and other venues around the country. A gig at the Highlands can be a welcome break during a busy tour, providing opportunities to showcase new songs and win new fans. And of course the Inn's guests enjoy an evening with a new talent ... or perhaps a favorite artist from their home area.
The Highlands' concert series started with a few concerts in the spring of 1999 and 2000, and now runs throughout the year. Upcoming concerts include several New England-based artists as well as Vicki Blankenship, the CEO of Indiegrrl; Australian Emaline Delapaix; and other award-winning singer-songwriters from around the country.
See the Highlands' website for the complete concert schedule and links to the artists' websites.
